So let us do the boring, useful thing and lay out what these actually are, how they differ, and why the differences matter inside a classroom rather than inside a tech demo.

First, what "Nano Banana" actually is

Nano Banana is the nickname that stuck to Google's image generation and editing model inside the Gemini app. The official name is a mouthful of version numbers, which is exactly why nobody uses it. Ask for a detailed diagram with accurate labels and you will get something that looks right from across the room and falls apart up close. For a kid making a joke or a poster, none of that matters. Google packages it for paying subscribers and creative professionals rather than casual users.

The classroom implication is the one nobody loves to say out loud. The flaws that make base Nano Banana easy to catch get quieter in Pro. Text that used to garble now renders cleanly, which means a fake permission slip, a doctored screenshot, or an invented "primary source" looks more legitimate. Pro is not magic and it still leaves traces, but it raises the floor on how good a casual fake can be.

The practical reality is that most students are not paying for Pro. The ones who are tend to be older, more motivated, and working on something they care about, which cuts both ways. It might be a genuinely ambitious art project. It might be a more deliberate attempt to deceive. The tier alone does not tell you which.

A genuine review requires the product to exist and be available, and much of what circulates is extrapolation dressed up as reporting. The honest summary is this: expect the trend line to continue, expect each generation to render text better and produce fewer obvious errors, and do not make policy decisions based on a model nobody can put their hands on yet.

When it does arrive, the questions worth asking are the same ones that matter for any tier. Can it produce believable text inside an image. Can it fake a document. How easily can a non-expert operate it. Everything else is marketing.

What the tiers mean for a school

Here is the part that survives whichever version is current. The differences between these models are real but they are differences of polish, not of capability. And lean on the boring verification habits that do not care which banana made the picture. Where did this image come from. Does a reverse search find the original. Does the metadata make sense. Does the lighting and the shadow agree with each other.
